Anna Monica Murphy, born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, is a self-taught fine art painter, primarily working with watercolours and acrylics. Following the completion of an International Business Degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Anna lived and worked in Europe at a global fashion brand before coming home where her practice is continuously adapting with ongoing developments in visual art, children's books, and jewellery.
Inspired by the methods Newfoundlanders once used to move communities and by the bond that exists between Newfoundlanders and the sea. In the early 1900s, a common practice of relocating a family to a new community involved floating their homes in the ocean and towing them by boats to their new destination. Anna painted this just before departing to live in another country.
